The School Readiness Quality Improvement Program was designed to help programs improve the school readiness of children ages five years or younger. Sites in Denver who have participated in the School Readiness project are being supported by the Clayton Early Learning Institute for the use of authentic assessment in preschool classrooms. Currently, these sites use a tool called the ESTART (Early Childhood Standards for Assessment of Readiness Tool; Denver Public Schools Foundation, 2003). The Institute provides training on observation-based assessments in general, as well as training specific to using the ESTART tool. We also support sites in collecting the data and provide reports to sites for approximately 1100 children for whom an ESTART is completed in 75 classrooms across Denver. This project is coordinated with the Denver Early Childhood Council.
